Collectivism is the belief that humanity taken together has more potential than the sum of its parts. It is the idea that we can get more out of government than we put in. It's us, working together.

What gets interesting is the notion that for the first time since 2006, Bills written by a GOP House of Representatives will head over to the Senate with a GOP control of say 51 to 49 or 55 to 45, for reconciliation and then off to Obama. We may see the real Republican face of Obama, where Barack will get to embrace the rich and powerful, trash the Democratic Party for good, and blame it all on the GOP! That may be his strategy to get elected in 2012? I wonder if Barack and Rahm will change party in voter registration as well?

Deflation, defined as a fall in the general price level, is absolutely unnecessary. It is economically destructive and has to be avoided in order to foster new growth, even and especially following a money/credit contraction. I have read your posts and I believe you are correct that there are occasional downward adjustments in the money supply; I don't dispute that. What's much more important is the price level and the interest rate.

I don't think the money supply itself has any value outside of determining those two values.

If you cite from my site, then I recommend you also read up on the benefits and in fact the inevitable necessity of deflation that I have written about so many times.

Deflation is here and now and we better embrace it rather than do that which is bout to fail: fight it.

[...] Which to choose? Of course, it’s a value judgment. Increasingly, however, the idea of monetary union via federation is proving to be a more and more resilient idea, as the Eurozone is proving in its management of the Greek crisis and the US has always stood a premier example of. The ideological issue, though, harks back to a previous post, in which I discuss the deep-rooted aversion of the States to such a union. [...]
