Immigrants Create Jobs

FYI, from the OECD. (via) And why shouldn’t they? Immi­grants are just like you, or me, or new kids — some of them are bound to be entre­pre­neurs will­ing to bor­row money, and start busi­ness, and hire other peo­ple, and, well, why do we insist on stop­ping them from doing it?

If only we could come up with a way to share the ben­e­fits. For exam­ple, we could have a tax on the new incomes earned by immi­grants — call it an “income tax” — and use it to pay for things like roads and bridges. Or — or! — we could have them pay into a pot of money that then goes to pay for old people’s med­ical care. Hmmmm.…
