Master of the Obvious, or, I Agree With Joe Lieberman

You’d have to be a fool to think that he’s wrong here, or that this statement is even newsworthy:

I voted last night as 59 others did to go ahead with the debate because I want us to begin not only debating health care reform but doing something about health care reform,” Lieberman said. “But I don’t think anybody feels this bill, as Senator Reid put it down — though he made a lot of progress blending bills together — I don’t think anybody thinks this bill will pass.”

No, this bill will definitely have to change in endless minutiae in order to survive the four remaining floor votes, and those minute changes will redistribute billions of dollars among millions of people. There will be winners and losers, but that’s Congressional politics. That’s Senate politics. It’s not pretty. It’s not the best system. In fact, it’s not even a good system. Unfortunately, though, it’s what we have, and we have to try our best to get something out of it.

What we get might even include a “modest” public option.
