Obama On Board With Compromise

Even more telling than Howard Dean’s assent is approval from Pres­i­dent Obama:

I sup­port this effort, espe­cially since it’s aimed at increas­ing choice and com­pe­ti­tion and low­er­ing cost,” Obama said at a health-​​care event near the White House, attended by sev­eral Sen­ate Democrats.

We’ll know more about it after the Democ­rats have a cau­cus meet­ing at 5:00.

The pro­posed Medicare expan­sion has, nat­u­rally, been draw­ing fire from Repub­li­cans, who com­pared the pro­gram to “putting loved ones onto a sink­ing Titanic.” This, oddly enough, implies that they want to keep every­one they know on the Titanic for as long as pos­si­ble. Here’s Orrin Hatch on the issue just today:

Every­one knows Medicare is extremely impor­tant to the 43 mil­lion seniors and dis­abled Amer­i­cans cov­ered by the Medicare program.”
